Albemarle County is famous for its rich history, beautiful scenery, and close connections to the nation’s founding fathers. Visitors will see Albemarle County at its best: from Monticello to the stunning Deep Rock Farm in White Hall. Established in 1744, the area played a key role in the American Revolution. Thomas Jefferson, the third U.S. President, designed and lived at Monticello. The University of Virginia, also designed by Jefferson, is located in Charlottesville, the county seat. Both sites are Garden Club of Virginia restoration locations. Admission to both the Monticello grounds and the house is included in the tour ticket, which features access to three private properties. This tour stretches along Garth Road, past Foxfield Racecourse and Oakencroft Winery, as well as many beautiful and historic properties. Albemarle is known for its rolling hills and its proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park. It is also recognized for its vibrant local food and wine scene.
