Our Work

After a century of impact, we’re only starting to blossom

Since our founding in 1920, we have advocated for environmentally critical legislation, supported the creation and maintenance of Virginia State Parks, and much more. And we have a lot of fun doing serious work.

Conservation

Our members support the protection of public and private lands, and work to preserve the scenic beauty of Virginia. Our efforts and investments have made a significant impact on our shared landscapes.

Landscape Restorations

Led by our renowned landscape architect and knowledgeable members, we restore and preserve vital public sites of the commonwealth. Restorations are made possible by proceeds from our signature annual event, Historic Garden Week.

Over time, we’ve made a significant impact on our shared landscapes.

Education & Programs

Education is at the heart of our mission. We work to encourage and guide budding horticulturalists, promote the knowledge of plants, and create a greater understanding of Virginia’s ecosystems.

GCV funds multiple fellowship programs, conducts a variety of workshops, and supports educational programming in public spaces throughout Virginia.
