Questions?
Offering opportunities to visit key sites during the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Gloucester County is uniquely positioned between the Chesapeake Bay and numerous waterways, making the area an integral part of the nation’s growth. It has a rich history tied to Captain John Smith’s exploration, the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, the Founding Fathers, and its prominence as a transit location for the Underground Railroad. This year’s tour features four beautiful and unique homes and gardens: a historic property on the Severn River originally built by George Washington’s great-great-grandfather; a 19th-century house on Wilson Creek; and two 20th-century homes fronting the Piankatank River.
