Questions?
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1997, Monument Avenue is an urban thoroughfare with a grassy median lined with stately trees. Between 1900 and 1925, development along this expansive corridor flourished as architecturally significant mansions, townhomes, and churches were built. Behind these grand facades, walled gardens offered seasonal blooms, specimen trees, fountains, and follies. Today, its stately beauty, in proximity to downtown Richmond and cultural venues, continues to delight locals and tourists. Named for the statues that once punctuated its skyline, this walking tour includes beautiful homes and private garden gems.
