Speaking up — and showing up — for our native species, waters, mountains, cultural sites, and landscapes
As an early advocate for protecting the environment, the Garden Club of Virginia’s 3,400+ members have built a strong volunteer force to track legislation and recommend policy positions for members to support or oppose, including those that address climate change and coastal resiliency, clean energy, conservation and protection of natural resources, preservation of historic viewsheds, and more.
Our work is year-round, intensifying at the start of each year during the Virginia General Assembly.
Gov. Youngkin signed for approval HB1941/SB1166 Invasive plant species, retail sales. This important piece of legislation “requires, for the retail sale of certain invasive plant species for outdoor use, a retail establishment to post in a conspicuous manner… signage identifying such plant as invasive, educating consumers regarding invasive plant species, and encouraging consumers to ask about alternatives.”
