Purpose: To support research in conservation and environmental studies that directly impacts the Commonwealth of Virginia. Topics may include flora, fauna or community practices.
Provision and eligibility: A one-year grant of up to $8,000 for study and research to one graduate-level student at an accredited university in Virginia. Additionally, a one-year grant of up to $4,000 may be awarded to a qualified undergraduate student attending an accredited college or university in Virginia.
Selection: Final fellowship awards are selected by the Garden Club of Virginia in consultation with a university faculty member in a related field.
Letter of Endorsement: A letter written by the applicant’s major or graduate advisor should include a statement that the applicant is duly enrolled in school during the project period. This must be emailed from the advisor’s school email address by the deadline. Email to communications@gcvirginia.org
Additional Requirements:
- A written proposal for the project should include the scope of the project, methods, expected results, and impact on the environment in Virginia. Include all applicable supporting data.
- An itemized budget proposal stating how the award will be spent should match the total monies requested. Funds not used for the expressed purpose of the proposal must be returned to the Garden Club of Virginia within one year of completion of the grant.
- Acknowledgment of Garden Club of Virginia support in any publication or report resulting from the Fellowship.
- A final written project report and accounting of expenditures at the conclusion of the fellowship.
- Periodic brief updates to the Conservation & Environmental Studies Committee as needed by the Garden Club of Virginia for meetings or publications.
- An in-person presentation of the project at a Garden Club of Virginia event is expected. This is generally during the Annual Meeting in May.
- Photos of the recipient at work and photos of the work.
